From a background of 400,000 flying hoursThe BAC 145 and its derivative the BAC 167 are new, but in essentials they are already 400,000 flying hours old because 400,000 hours is the Jet Provost background from which the pressurised BAC 145/167 have been evolved. Further, the 400,000 airframe and engine hours have been gained by the most rugged flying in the world-jet training.
Circuits and bumps, aerobatics, tactical exercises, and ground attack - these are the things which prove a structure and build up knowledge.
The SAC 145/167 have-been made possible by the solid experience of 450 Jet Provosts in service with six air forces. This is why they have an airframe fatigue life of more than 15 years at average service utilisation.
This is why they really can be quickly converted to weaponstraining or for ground attack. The BAC 145/167 offer greatly increased new operational capabilities and economy, but are based on proven reliability and on nearly 20 years continuity in manufacturing this type of aeroplane.
